CORTLAND, N.Y. – Oswego State senior Sarah Thayer (Winthrop, N.Y.) has been named the SUNY Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 21, 2013.
Thayer earned five of Oswego State’s six wins last week, including four wins over three different SUNYAC opponents to keep the Lakers’ playoff chances alive.
Over 25.2 innings, she allowed only one extra-base hits and posted a 1.40 ERA to lower her season ERA by more than two runs. Against New Paltz, Thayer hurled a complete game, allowing one unearned run.
In Sunday’s doubleheader against Oneonta, she earned the win in game one after giving up one earned run. In the 12-inning affair, Thayer came into the circle in the 10th and struck out four batters en route to the win.
She also drove in a run in Oswego State’s two-run, 10th-inning comeback and started a bases-loaded double play in the 11th with no outs before striking out the final batter of the frame. Thayer forced a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 12th.
Oswego State (12-14, 7-7 SUNYAC) plays ten games this week with a pair of SUNYAC doubleheaders at Brockport and Geneseo and non-conference doubleheaders against Nazareth, Morrisville and Utica.
