The Art Of The Audition Free Workshop Planned

FULTON – CNY Arts Center is proud to welcome returning guest director Cara D’Emanuele to present an audition workshop as part of the monthly Talent Share open mic night.

Cara D'Emanuele returns to CNY to offer a free audition workshop at CNY Arts Center's Hotspot on March 24.

Cara D’Emanuele returns to CNY to offer a free audition workshop at CNY Arts Center’s Hotspot on March 24.

It will be held at the Arts HotSpot, 47 S. First St. in downtown Fulton, March 24 at 7 p.m.

A graduate of Mexico High School, D’Emanuele is thrilled to come home to “give back” and invest in local talent who will receive specific attention in preparation for upcoming auditions for White Christmas, the Arts Center’s family summer musical and other area productions and also provide instruction in mastering the audition process for both stage and screen projects.

In a fun, non-competitive, supportive environment students will learn how to interpret audition notices; how to prepare and present music and/or monologues that will best showcase talent; how to make initial contact with a casting director; how to find out about auditions for stage and screen projects throughout the region; how to create a resume appropriate for actors and singing actors and how to obtain high quality training through classes, workshops and private coaching.

D’Emanuele is a Rochester-based actor, acting coach, and casting director who has dedicated her 30-year career to providing high quality training to actors and singing actors from the Western and Central New York regions.

She affords her students outstanding instruction in musical theatre, acting and audition techniques in both private and group settings.

She creates innovative and inspiring workshops which provide students the opportunity to experience not only training but candid critique.

She has a reputation for being a “straight shooter” and believes the phrase “it’s good enough” simply shouldn’t exist.

Her teaching practices guide actors to approach preparation and performance through extensive character research and scene study to create believable, realistic and engaging characters on both stage and screen.

Musical theatre singers are challenged to not only present musical performances but to “sell a song.”

Her stage and screen credits include Christmas in The Heart with country music legend Kenny Rogers at The Beacon Theatre in NYC, productions with Rochester’s Blackfriars Theatre (Zorba, Sunday in The Park with George, Steel Magnolias, Rags, Cover of Life) and screen credits including Medical Mysteries (The Discovery Channel), Homicide: Life on The Street (NBC), Smash (NBC), and The Sopranos (HBO).

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre/Music Education from Wagner College in NYC and a Master of Vocal Performance from Syracuse University.

She is a 1983 graduate of Mexico High School.

The free audition workshop will be from 7-8:30 p.m. on March 24 followed by Talent Share Open Mic from 8:30-10 p.m.

White Christmas auditions will be held April 14 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and April 16 from 6-9 p.m. at the Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga College Fulton Campus.
