Lanigan Elementary students launched their homemade rockets near the playground behind the school on a beautiful fall Friday.
A few students started to sing “The Final Countdown” by the Swedish band Europe as they waited in line, laughing all the while.
The wind carried the children’s launched rockets, parachuting through the sky, all the way to the roof of the school building.
A couple fast runners showcased their skills as they hurried across the lawn hoping to catch their aircrafts.
The model rocket kits come from the OCM BOCES Science Center.
The yearly sixth-grade project teaches students about scientific concepts like physics, Newton’s Law of Gravity and aerodynamics.
