The Oswego Children’s Theater’s second production of the 2013 season, “Seussical Jr.is a musical comedy based on the classic children’s books by Theodore Geisell otherwise known as Dr. Seuss.
The play was written by Lynn Ahrens, with Music by Stephen Flaherty.
The Children’s Theater will be presenting the Jr. version of the show, which is scored for younger voices.
“Seussical” features a large cast and crew of local youth, many of whom have been performing with the group for several years.
Haley Thompson, featured in “Seussical” as Gertrude McFuzz, made her stage debut in 2002 in “The Wizard of Oz” as a Munchkin. This also happened to be The Oswego Children’s Theater’s in the very first show.
Since then Haley has appeared in many shows including “Stage Door,” “Juvie,” Alice in Wonderland,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and in the title role in this season’s production of “Winnie the Pooh”
In this capacity Thompson was one of two OCT actors to win an award for their talents at the Michael J Harm’s Theater Festival in Auburn. Thompson will be attending Cayuga Community College in the fall, majoring in theater.
Another veteran player, Jessica Johnston, is featured in the role of the Cat in the Hat. Johnston first appeared with the Oswego Children’s Theater in “Alice in Wonderland” in 2007 and since then has been seen in many other productions, most notably perhaps as Imogene Herdman in “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”

Since then he has grown as an actor being seen in “The Road to Oz”, “Juvie and several other productions including this years “Winnie the Pooh where he also won an acting award for his performance as Piglet.
Other actors appearing in “Seussical” with several years of experience include Mary Buske, Skylar Gibson, Caroline Gray, and Cassidee Larkin.
The show’s cast is filled out Ethan Cliff, Pailyn Davis, Alexis Hartle, Baxter and Zander Mason and Karlin Twiss. Adult cast members include Bobby Fontana, Wayne Mosher Jr. and Connie Smith.
The show is directed by Lyndsie Lee Jones assisted by Music Director Kenneth C. Jones, Wayne Mosher Jr., assistant director, Kelly Mosher, Flo Ross and Carla Larkin on costume design, and Amanda Mosher on makeup design.
“Seussical Jr.” is slated to be performed August 2 and at 7:30 p.m. with matinee performances on August 3 and 4 at 2 p.m. at the New Haven Congregational Church located on Route 104 East between Oswego and Mexico.
Tickets are $7 for adults, and $5 for children and students.
