The Oswego Players “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” To Open in April

On Friday April 16 The Oswego Players will present the second production of the 2010 season with the Ken Kesey drama “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.

The cast features Peter Mahan as Randle P. McMurphy and Laura Lowerie as Nurse Ratched. Other cast includes, Joe Calverase, Zane Leo, Sue Pirrera, Troy Pepper, Kyle Walton, Richard Mosher, Norman Berlin III, Norman Berlin Jr, Ken Snow, Dennis Darrow, Jennifer Snow, Larry Rose, Amanda Lee Mosher.

The story begins as Randle P.McMurphy , a minor criminal, convinces his guards that he’s crazy enough to need psychiatric care, and so he is sent to a mental hospital. He fits in frighteningly well, and his different point of view actually seems to cause some of the patients to progress. Nurse Ratched, the tyrannical ward supervisor, becomes his persecutor, as his resistance to the hospital routine gets on her nerves, His free spirited attitudes lead to a near rebellion amongst the patients. Nurse Ratched reacts to this by placing ever-greater restrictions on McMurphy, and the ward, eventually leading to McMurphy’s destruction. Watching this process, without saying a word, the half-breed, Chief Bromdon, inspired by McMurphy’s resistance, finds the will to take back his own life.

The Oswego Players production of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is directed by Bobby Fontana aided by Quinn Etchie as assistant director and Sharon Darrow as stage Manger. Technical staffers include Ken Snow and Norm Berlin Jr. on Set design and construction and Richard Mosher on light design.

The show will be presented April 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 8:00 p.m.with a matinee performance on April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Frances Marion Brown Theater, located in the Civic Arts Center building in Fort Ontario Park in Oswego.
