Three First Half Goals Sink Oswego State Field Hockey In 4-0 Loss To Geneseo

The Oswego State field hockey could not overcome three first half goals as it fell to Geneseo 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Knights controlled possession throughout the game as they tallied 25 shots and took 30 penalty corners compared to three shots and nine penalty corners for the Lakers.

Oswego State dropped to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the SUNY Athletic Conference, while Geneseo improved to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.

The Blue Knights dictated play from the opening whistle with five penalty corners in the first six minutes before Geneseo capitalized on the sixth with a goal from Stephanie Maisonet. The Laker defense and goalkeeper Jamie Scharfe (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) stood tall for the majority of the first half until the Blue Knights broke through with a pair of goals from Abby Sayler in the last six minutes of the frame. Geneseo led 3-0 at halftime despite 14-0 shot margin.

Oswego State kept the Blue Knights off the scoreboard in the second half until Maisonet recorded her second goal of the game near the left post at the 59:51 mark.

Scharfe finished the match with nine saves on 13 shots. Nicole Zito and Caitlyn Dowell combined to stop three shots for the shutout.
