Kicking off the summer will be a week of dance classes with Jennica Vehrs for ages 5-15, July 7-11, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dance, Dance! will provide students an experience in lyrical/contemporary and jazz dancing.  Throughout the week, students will learn stretches to improve flexibility, across-the-floor exercises to improve technique, and both a lyrical/contemporary routine, as well as a jazz routine, to implement the components of these dance styles.

Arty Day Camp launches July 14 – 18 for its third summer of art fun for kids ages 5 to 15, and again August 11 – 15.  Children will choose from art, writing, more dance and theater classes for a week of learning and hands-on projects.

“Arty Camp is such a great experience and we look forward to children enjoying art projects, dance, theatre and writing fun,” said Alice Lamb, camp director. “Art classes allow children to explore techniques and find new ways to express their creativity. Our dance class focuses on specific dance styles and our theatre and writing classes will take children to another form of artistic expression while having a lot of fun.”

Summer fun for kids continues with individual art topics to choose from. Each third Saturday of the month, June 21, July 19 and August 16, Kendra Matott offers Story Time Art for ages 2 to 7 from 1 to 2 pm. Children will hear a story read and create fun art projects to illustrate the story. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.

Exploring Photography runs July 28 – August 1 from 9 a.m. to noon with separate sessions from ages 6 to 10 and ages 11 to 18. Students should register for all five days of the Photography classes.

Opposite those classes Bonnie McClellan will offer paper Quilling for ages 11-18 and 6 to 10 Monday – Wednesday of that week.   This ancient art produces unique decorative pieces from thin strips of paper. Yarn Painting, unique art from everyday scraps of yarn, for ages 11-18 and 6-10 will fill in Thursday and Friday to finish out the week. These classes can be taken individually.

The fun continues August 25-29 with Fantasy Art for ages 6 to 10 and 11 to 18. Each class taught by Matott will cover a different topic such as How to Draw a Dragon, Create a Fantastical Beast, Dream Landscapes, Fantasy Fashions and Armor and Painting Faeries and Mermaids. Opposite those classes Bonnie McClellan will offer Drawing and Painting for ages 11 to 18 and 6 to 10 with a variety of techniques and projects.

Sewing Projects continues every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6pm under the direction of Virginia Lockhart. Call her at 402-7513 for registration.

Fees apply for all classes but scholarships for Arty Day Camp are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts, Inc.

No child will be turned away as along as funds are available.
