Tom Sears Jr. Beats Tim Sears Jr. In A Photo Finish To Win The Modifieds At Fulton Speedway

FULTON, NY – On Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway, being a veteran was just inches better than a rookie in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds.

It was Sears against Sears in a family battle that saw Tom Sears Jr. drive by Tim Sears Jr. in a photo finish that was only 0.181 of a second by the transponders on the multi-grooved and quick high banks.

Other winners on Tracey Road Equipment/Oswego County ATV Night were, Jeremy Pitcher, SUNY Canton Sportsman, Alan Fink, NAPA Late Models, Thomas Cook, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and Skip DeGroff, Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stocks.

Brian Murphy outgunned Chris Hile and the rest of the 26 car starting field to lead in the early going of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature.

With 5 laps showing on the scoring tower, Murphy held about a ten car length lead over Hile, Mike Bowman. Tom Sears Jr. and Tim Sears Jr..

On lap 9, a slow back marker stacked cars up behind him causing Billy Decker and Larry Wight to get collected. Wight returned as Decker was done for the night.

When the green came back out, Hile was shot out of a cannon as he went from third to the lead in one move.

On lap 13, the yellow would fly again when Wight had a rear wheel come off from possible damage from the lap 9 incident. Wight would not return.

On the restart Mike Bowman dug on the bottom of the speedway and shot into the lead on lap 14.

At the halfway point Bowman opened a comfortable lead as Hile and Tim Sears Jr. fought for second and third. Tom Sears Jr. and Jim Witko showed in the top-five.

With 10 laps to go, Bowman was still turning quick laps out front. Tim Sears Jr. and Tom Sears Jr. were in a tough fight for second and third with Hile and Witko showing on the scoring tower.

On lap 30, Tom Sears Jr was able to get past both Tim Sears Jr. and leader Bowman to take the top spot with only a handful of laps left as the race was far from over.

Tim Sears Jr. was able to work his way into the lead on lap 31. Over the remaining laps Tom Sears Jr. threw everything he had at Tim Sears Jr. with one last ditch effort on the final lap. Going into turns three and four , Tom Sears Jr. was able to pull alongside Tim Sears Jr. as the drag race was on to the checkers. At the stripe the scoring transponder showed Tom Sears Jr. the winner by a mere 0.181 of a second. Pat Ward, Ryan Phelps and Mike Bowman finished third through fifth.

In the green to checker 20 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature, Jeremy Pitcher took the lead from Rick Rogala on lap 6 and never looked back for his fifth win of the season. Points leader Jordan Bennett, Matt Emmons, Rick Rogala and Andrew Ferguson finished second through fifth.

Rick Miller and AJ Kingsley both led in the early going of the 20 lap NAPA Late Model feature before Alan Fink took over the lead at the halfway point. Once in the lead, Fink outdistanced the rest of the field winning by 2.235 seconds over Sean Beardsley at the finish. It was Fink’s third feature win of the win. Larry Wight, AJ Kingsley and Rick Miller finished third through fifth.

Tom Cook who started sixth, took the lead from past feature winner Corey Barker on lap 7 of the 15 lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman feature. Cook then outran the rest of the field for his first ever career win. Barker, Bailey Groves, Kyle Fink and Brandon Ford chased Cook across the line.

In the highly competitive Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stock feature, Skip DeGroff grabbed his fourth win of the year over Mark Johnston, Jerry Herbert, Eric M Zirbel, and Sam Curcie.

The night ended with the mechanics races. Joe August Sr. (Modifieds), Ron Ingison (sportsman) and Alan Chapman (Late Model) picked up the wins.

This coming Saturday, August 25th only two point races remain before crowning the 2012 track champions. Burkes Home Centers will present the nights racing featuring the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stocks plus a ladies race.

Gates will open this Saturday August 25th, at 5:00 with racing starting at 7:00. Adult grandstand admission will be $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger admitted FREE to the grandstands.
