Troopers Investigate Fatal Crash in Palermo

On Saturday (December 5), at approximately 6:20 a.m., State Police in Fulton responded to a one-car crash on County Route 45 in the town of Palermo.

Investigation revealed a 2002 GMC operated by John M. Whalen, 21, from Central Square, was traveling southeast on County Route 45 near Island Road when, for unknown reasons, he drove off the east side shoulder of the roadway causing the vehicle to roll over and striking a utility pole.

Whalen was ejected and thrown sixty feet.

He was transported by McFee Ambulance to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse where he died , police said.

The investigation is continuing.
