The Red Creek Conservation Club is hosting the Willis Cook Family Classic 1st Annual Turkey Shoot to commemorate the work Willis Cook donated over the years to the club. The opening shot for events will be at 9:00 a.m. sharp on Sunday, August 29th, 2010 at the club in Red Creek. Willis Cook along with his late wife Joyce, and his whole family was instrumental in organizing an annual fall turkey shoot at the club.
The Turkey Shoot includes competitive events with cash prizes and fun for everyone from first timers to old timers. The games encompass skill and chance alike, so everyone can find a game to suit their skill and luck. Events are offered for shotgun, handgun, black powder, and center fire rifles. The 5 Stand Clay Bird Range promises a variety of fun to shoot, prize-winning games. Standing Target â€“ Bench Rest Range accommodates all skill levels. The Trap Range has interesting and challenging games including â€œWipe Your Eyeâ€ with partners and â€œAnnie Oakleyâ€, an elimination game. No shot larger than 7 Â½ is allowed at the club. There are ranges for Running Deer, center fire rifle Silhouette, Shotgun slug and center-fire handgun Silhouette. Circle boards offer a game of chance for all.
The Willis Cook Family Classic 1st Annual Turkey Shoot is a one-day event held rain or shine. Breakfast is available at the clubhouse starting at 8:00 a.m. and lunch and beverages will be available also.
Willis Cook was a past president, Lifetime Member, and Range Master at the Red Creek Conservation Club. He led Hunter Education courses at the club for many years and was an NRA certified instructor.
The Red Creek Conservation Club has been dedicated to education in gun safety and sports since its incorporation in 1950. Hunter Education Courses are offered at the club every year. Bow hunter Education Courses are also scheduled in the fall. The club belongs to the Four County Skeet League, and the National Skeet Shooting Association. Its facilities include Skeet, Trap, Handgun, Rifle ranges and a clubhouse. The club is located at 6924 Waters Road, 1.4 miles north of New York State Route 104 in Red Creek, NY.
