Two Baldwinsville Men Die In Ice Fishing Incident

OSWEGO – The bodies of two Baldwinsville men have been recovered from Sandy Pond.

At about 11:01 a.m. Monday (Jan. 23), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two fishermen having fallen through the ice on Sandy Pond.

Members arrived in the area along with members of the Sandy Creek fire department.

A short time later members of the Sandy Creek fire department located where the men had reportedly fallen through the ice, approximately a quarter of a mile north from the south shore of North Sandy Pond.

Members of the Oswego County dive team were called in and recovered two victims shortly after 3 p.m.

The victims have been identified as 64-year-old Arthur A. Connors, of 7096 East Sorrell Hill Road, Baldwinsville, and 62-year-old, Mark J. Pienkowski, of 1556 Gunbarrel Road, Baldwinsville.

Poor ice conditions were the contributing factor of this accident and hampered recovery efforts.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Sandy Creek fire department, Ringgold fire department, West Monroe fire department, United States Coast Guard, Oswego County Dive team, NOCA Ambulance, Menter Ambulance and the New York State Police.
