Two Oswego Girls Raise Money for Oswego Hospital

OSWEGO, NY – Two budding artists from Oswego’s Kingsford Park Elementary School used their talents during spring break to raise money for Oswego Hospital’s pediatric patients.

The fifth graders and good friends, Sophia Greene and Presley Slimmer, drew pictures of all sorts of things and then sold them to residents of their westside neighborhood.

“We talked about where we wanted to donate the money we raised and we thought of the hospital,” Slimmer said.

According to the girls, they sold many of their pictures for 50 cents each and some residents made an outright donation when they heard the cause.

In a letter to the hospital that included $17, the girls wrote, “We would like this money to go to the children’s part of the hospital. We really hope you can buy something nice for them.”

Kim Hyde, RN, clinical nurse manager for pediatrics, said her department would happily fulfill the girls’ request.

“It is so nice to hear about children thinking of other children and we will use the funds to purchase some coloring utensils, books and paper, that I am sure our pediatric patients will enjoy,” Hyde said,
