OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego will celebrate the life and career of Kathy Budd, a sculptor and art department faculty member who died last December, in an exhibition Oct. 21 to Nov. 19 at Tyler Art Gallery.
The opening reception for “Grief and Gratitude: A Celebration of Kathy Budd’s Art” will take place 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Art historians Lisa Seppi and Dr. Maureen Shanahan will offer a gallery talk at 6 p.m.
The free memorial retrospective exhibition will feature the work of Budd and her students. It is guest-curated by her colleague and friend, Haleh Niazmand.
Budd’s scholarly work focused on such social justice issues as the relationship between capitalism and work culture, labor trends in the working class and professions, and the effects of gender, class and race on work experience. Her materials included cast bronze and aluminum components combined with fabricated and natural substances such as salt and honey.
SUNY Oswego’s Artswego, Auxiliary Services and the Student Association Exhibition Committee support the exhibition.
Tyler Art Gallery is open 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. On weekends, parking is free in campus lots for those visiting the gallery. For more information or for visitors needing accommodations to attend, call 312-2113.
