Unemployment in Oswego County took another strong jump upwards in November, cracking the 10% mark again.
The county’s jobless rate was 10.1%, up from 9.3% in October and a full point higher than in November, 2009.
It’s the third highest jobless rate in the state and second highest in Upstate New York.
There were 500 fewer people listed as employed in November, while another 500 people were listed as unemployed.
State Labor Department officials say the loss of jobs across most of Upstate New York during November was driven primarily by the loss of jobs in state and local governments and schools. Private sector companies added a small number of jobs during the month.
“New York State’s economic recovery from this recession has been very uneven to date,” said Norman A. Steele, Deputy Director of the Division of Research and Statistics for the Labor Department.
