United Way Says Thanks For Supporting Book Project

FULTON, NY – On Saturday, May 28, we had the pleasure to be part of one of Oswego County’s most popular events, the Fulton Memorial Day Parade.

Thanks to the tremendous support we received from the community we were able to distribute hundreds of books to children along the parade route.

It was wonderful to see the expressions on their faces and the appreciation of the parents.

This would not have been possible if not for the generous donations we received from caring community members and efforts of some very special people.

I would especially like to thank the employees of the Wal-Mart Super Center in Granby who hosted a book drive and volunteered to help us prepare and distribute the books; the faculty, students and members of PRK at Cayuga Community College’s Fulton Campus for hosting a second book drive, Lannigan Elementary School, Discover Day Care in Phoenix, Fulton City Library, OCO’s Backstreet Books & Bistro, and of course the organizers of the Fulton Memorial Day Parade for allowing us to be a part of it.

On behalf of those of us at United Way, and the hundreds of children who are enjoying their new books today, I extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped us with this project.

We happily accept donations of children’s books throughout the year so that we can re-stock for the 2012 Fulton Memorial Day Parade.
