OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Common Council Vice President and former Oswego City Democrat Chairman Eric VanBuren today (Oct. 8) endorsed John Katko for Congress and announced he has changed his political registration, joining the Republican Party.
“Recently, I submitted the paperwork to change my party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. I made this very personal decision after much thought and consideration. I philosophically and politically believe I can be more effective within the Republican Party and that starts with our federal representation. John Katko has run an honorable and effective campaign focused on the issues. It’s that kind of person that I want representing my family and all of Oswego in Congress,” VanBuren said.
“I welcome Councilor VanBuren to the Republican Party and thank him for his kind support of John Katko for Congress. Eric’s endorsement and registration change speak to the efforts of the OCRC to not only appeal to a diverse cross-section of voters, but young people in particular. The Republican Party has and will continue to put forward candidates who are focused on creating jobs, cleaning up our neighborhoods, and effecting change in government.
Both John Katko and Eric Van Buren share those passions and I look forward to working with both of them,” said Oswego County Republican Committee Chairman Michael C. Backus.
“It’s clear that John Katko has the right ideas for the city of Oswego and I’m proud to publicly endorse him,” said VanBuren.
