Velma M. Barton, 85, a resident of Oswego, passed away October 14, 2011.
Born in Fulton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Kline) DeMott.
She worked for more than 20 years in Auxiliaries Services at SUNY Oswego, retiring in 1988. She previously worked at Nestles.
Velma was a member of the VFW Aux in Fulton and she volunteered at St. Luke Health Facility. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and playing cards. She was an avid reader.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda (Dick) Shafer of Scriba; Pam (Robert) Talamo of Scriba; Julie LaMay of Weedsport; a brother, Floyd DeMott of Fulton; six grandchildren, Richard Shafer, Jennifer Walton, Robert Talamo, Anna Parlato, Leann Dennis and Heather LaMay; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother Lloyd “Tiny” DeMot and a sister, Elsie DeMott.
Calling hours will be held 4-6p.m. Monday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego, with a prayer service to follow the calling hours.
