Kindergarten students at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School this week got a chance to experience up-close-and-personal the workings of a real dairy farm – without ever leaving their classroom.
Using the Google Expedition Virtual Field Trip headset kit and administered by the CiTi technology staff, students from Mrs. Kompf’s kindergarten class were able to take a tour through a working dairy farm as part of an ongoing unit on agriculture.
“It puts the students right in the environment so they feel like they’re part of the content instead of just seeing pictures,” said Lynn Millbyer of CiTi Computer Education.
Students witnessed the process of making ice cream, from the milking of cows to pasteurization and mixing of the milk and other ingredients, guided by a dynamic script that teachers can tailor to their individual classes.
CiTi produces Google Expedition Virtual Field Trips at districts throughout Oswego County each year.
Michael A. Maroun students will be engaged in the unit for the next three weeks.
