VOLNEY – Several students at Volney Elementary who exhibited honesty throughout the month of February received a Principal’s Award during a recent school assembly.
Principal Todd Terpening asked students in grades kindergarten through six to define honesty, to which one student loudly exclaimed, “You tell the truth!”
He referred to each award recipient as a classroom role model because their efforts helped make the school a better place to learn.
Principal’s Award honorees include Cole Christie, Colton Ilardi, Mitchell Loughrey, Kenzie Reed, Jack Olon, Zachary Denka, Liberty Allard, Kollin Hollenbeck, Chase Spohn, Saige Conger, Ethan Hollenbeck, Leon Smith, Ashley Taplin, Alyssa Sawyer, Gerrit Ossevoort, Justin Decker-Bennett, Michael Doney and Cameron Shutts.
Also honored during the assembly were students who were “On a Roll” throughout the month of February.
Principal Terpening presented those students with certificates of recognition because they worked hard to meet and achieve academic and/or social goals.
“On a Roll” honorees include: Stefan Rupert, Molly Smith, Grace Garrison, Collin Denson, Aylonna Loveall, Corey Seymour, Michael Blair, Rylan Wise, Travis Pitcher, Lainah Baker, Alan Craig, Jacob Crandall, Hunter Riebel, Owen Kitts, Evelyn Rupert, Mandy Miller, Alaynna Dashnau, Anthoney Seelmon, Nicholas Shaw and David Jackson.
Principal Terpening congratulated all students on their success and encouraged the entire student body to set achievement goals for the month of March and remainder of the school year so they, too, may receive special recognition.
The assembly concluded with about one dozen second-graders delivering a message that hard work and perseverance brings reward.
The young students used a PowerPoint presentation and performed a reader’s theater skit.
