W. Russell Gilbert, 94, former Merritt Rd., Town of Granby resident passed away on Saturday. Russ graduated from Phoenix High School, class of 1935; a bachelors degree from Houghton College in 1939; a master’s degree from Syracuse University; and a second master’s degree from University of New Hampshire. Russ taught chemistry and physics for Hannibal High School. He was a carpenter for Carpenter’s Union # 12, Syracuse.
Predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Beatrice H. (Wright) Gilbert in 2006; his son Stephen A. Gilbert in 1964; his great-granddaughter, Makayla E. Gilbert in 2005; a brother, David Gilbert in 2004.
Surviving are his two sons, Russell A. (Betty) Gilbert of Alton, IL, and Wayne E. (Judy) Gilbert of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Darren (Lynn) Gilbert, Amanda Gilbert, and Stephen (Katrina) Gilbert; two great-grandchidren, Kiara and Alexander Gilbert; three brothers, Asa (Barbara) Gilbert of Pennellville, John Gilbert of Phoenix, Fred (Gloria) Gilbert of VA.; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services are Thursday October 21 at 2:30 pm at Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, NY. Calling hours are from 12:30 to 2:30 prior to the service at the funeral home, 431 Main St. (Co. Rt. 57).
