Walk The Bridges To Support The American Red Cross

Submitted article

In the past week the Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross has responded to three fires in Oswego County.  We were able to provide assistance in the form of temporary shelter as well as food and clothing.  Did you ever wonder where the money comes from that allows the Red Cross to provide this assistance to disaster victims?

Events such as the upcoming Bridges to Caring Walk generate the funds that the Red Cross needs and uses to provide disaster relief assistance to families affected by fires.  You can make a difference by participating in this fundraising event on Saturday, September 27th.  Pre-registration is encouraged but you can register the day of the event.  All pre-registrants will be entered into a drawing for a “Healthy Living Gift Basket”  and receive a free t-shirt. Registration forms are available at the Red Cross office, several local businesses or online at www.syrarc.org.

With this year being the third, the event has grown each year; we anticipate a good turnout and look forward to meeting community members supporting the American Red Cross.  We have been fortunate to secure generous sponsorships from local corporations such as Windstream Communications, Constellation Energy, Pathfinder Bank and NRG along with Price Chopper in Fulton.  This year’s event focuses on walkers and their sponsors.  Each walker is encouraged to secure donations to the Red Cross in order to earn rewards.  The more money a walker raises the higher the rewards they will win.  The rewards program encourages walkers to get their friends and families involved and increases Red Cross support.  Even those who cannot walk can donate to support one who can.

Pathfinder Bank is this year’s Coloring contest sponsor.  Children are encouraged to color the entry and return it to either Pathfinder Bank or the American Red Cross.  Winners will be chosen in two categories and awarded savings bonds as their prize. Entry forms are available at Pathfinder Bank, the American Red Cross or online at www.syrarc.org.

As the premier sponsor Windstream Communication has arranged for the Walk to be part of their “Green Truck Tour”.  The 1950’s vintage “green truck” will be at the event to help promote the American Red Cross.

The event is being held at the Price Chopper parking lot in Fulton.  Registration for those not already signed up will begin at 8:30.  The Walk will begin at 9:00am.  Come join your community, friends, family and local business as they support the American Red Cross.  For more information please contact the Oswego branch office at 343-0967 or stop by and pick up a registration form.  “Support the Red Cross, Change a Life, starting with your own.”
