Water Main Break Causing Low Water Pressure in Central Square

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Onondaga County Water Authority customers in Central Square, Hastings and West Monroe may be experiencing low water pressure today (October 17) due to an issue with OCWA’s transmission main serving the area.

National Grid was installing a new gas main to Phinney Drive from Route 49 just west of the village of Central Square. Due to National Grid’s excavation the transmission main was damaged causing the low water pressure.

OCWA crews isolated the area of the damage, rerouted water through a backup transmission main and water pressure is returning in most of the affected areas.

Customers in the immediate area of the damage will be without water during the repairs.

Customers without water are on Route 49 between the cemetery entrance road and Little Canada Road (just west of the village of Central Square).

There are approximately 15 houses in the area without water.

OCWA is working on the repairs and expect to have the repairs completed late today and water service restored to those customers on Route 49.
