Weldon H. Hackett, 94

FULTON, NY – Weldon H. Hackett, 94, of Fulton, passed away Wednesday June 6, 2012, at Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton.

Weldon was born November 11, 1917, in Massena but lived most of his school years in Fulton.

He graduated from Fulton High School in 1934 and Clarkson College of Technology in 1938 receiving a degree of Bachelor of Civil Engineering.

In 1941, he entered the Air Force where he was commissioned as a flight engineer, serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II.

Weldon had attended Officers Training School at Yale University. He was separated from service in 1946 as a captain.

Weldon re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1962 when he retired as a major.

After his military career, Weldon served as Commissioner of Transportation for Onondaga County until his retirement in 1975.

On October 25, 1941, Weldon married Eleanor Mayback of Fulton and they resided in Liverpool for 20 years.

He had owned a cottage on Lake Ontario in the town of New Haven for more than 50 years where fishing and golf were his passions.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska.

Since his retirement in 1975, Weldon had spent six months of the year in Zephyrhills, Fla., enjoying the weather and sports.

Weldon was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Fulton throughout his entire life and was a member the Zephyrhills Moose Lodge since 1984.

Weldon is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor M. Hackett; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Jeannine Boyce.

Calling hours will be held Monday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.
