Wesley Franklyn VanDyke, 77, of Phoenix, NY, died on Tuesday, January 4, 2011.
Born in Chittenango Station, Town of Sullivan, Madison County, to his late parents, Marienis Adriaan and Dorothy (Centner) Van Dyke on Sept. 28, 1933. Graduate of Chittenango High, served in the Army, 1953-55.
He retired from Oswego County in building and grounds dept.; in prior years spent with the Town of Schroeppel; VanDyke Construction Co.; and The Sewing Place/Canvas repair on State Route 264.
A Phoenix resident since 1957, Wes was a member of the Phoenix United Methodist Church for over 50 years; Callimachus Lodge # 369; Home Builders Assoc.; social member VFW Post 5540; Copper Lake Club, avid deer hunter, loved camping and the out of doors; active in politics.
Pre-deceased by his brother Jackson VanDyke; a sister, Bernice Jackson; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (VanOrden) VanDyke.
Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Barb (Perks) VanDyke; his daughter, Deborah VanDyke Smith of Granby; his son, Paul VanDyke of Phoenix; step-daughters, Terry Robbins (Craig) of Palermo; Wendy Young (John) of Hubert, NC; seven grandchildren, Janelle, Gregory, Kyle, Nicole, Mandi, Aubrey, and Taylor; nieces, nephews, cousins.
Services Sunday Jan. 9, at the Phoenix United Methodist Church, 49 Jefferson St., military honors and the Rev. Constance L. Seifert officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango, Town of Sullivan, Madison County. Calling hours are Saturday between 4 and 7 pm at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.
