Based on the true-life escapades of Butler’s eighth-great-grandmother, Herodias (Long) Hicks Gardner Porter, the compelling and sensitive historical novel explores the limited rights of women in a restrictive society, seen through the eyes of a 13-year old girl trapped in an abusive marriage.
