FULTON, NY – Larry Wight and Dave Marcuccilli were the big winners Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway picking up wins in the Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds and the FX Caprara Car Companies Upstate Sportsman Alliance.
Wight would take advantage of a lap 16 restart as he was able to drive past Danny Johnson and into the lead in the 35-lap Modified feature. Once out front Wight was the class of the field outdistancing teammate Billy Decker for his fifth win of the year at the speedway.
Marcuccilli came to the Fulton Speedway Saturday night for two things, take the $1,000 winner’s share of the 30-lap FX Caprara Car Companies Upstate Sportsman Alliance Series win and grab the the guaranteed spot for October’s lucrative Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Shootout during the Outlaw 200 Weekend at the speedway.
Like Wight in the Modifieds, Marcuccilli would grab the lead from Todd Root on a Lap-6 restart and would outrun Todd Root and Ron Davis III the rest of the 30-lap distance.
Other winners on Tracey Road Equipment Night were, Sean Beardsley (NAPA Late Models) Amy Holland (E&V Energy Novice Sportsman) Dakota Bechler (Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders).
Andrew Ferguson would lead the opening three laps of the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature before Adam Roberts would drive into the lead using the top of the speedway.
On lap 7, Danny Johnson would move into second place and then set his sights on Roberts. It took Johnson just two laps to drive into the lead setting the early pace.
With 15 laps showing on the lap counter Johnson led by a half a straightaway as Larry Wight who started 10th and Billy Decker who started 17th chased the leader. Roberts, Chad Phelps and Joe August ran third through fifth before a caution that involved one of the top five.
Roy Shields showing smoke suddenly slowed in turns three and four with the field bearing down on him at speed. Adam Roberts with nowhere to go made contact with Shields ending his shot at a top finish.
When the race went back green, Wight digging hard on the bottom of the speedway shot past Johnson to be scored the new leader with his teammate Billy Decker also getting by Johnson.
At the 20-lap mark Wight was on rails a half a straightaway ahead of the field. Decker, Johnson, Chad Phelps battled for second through fourth with Jimmy Phelps showing fifth.
With 10 laps to go Wight was running almost as quick in lap times as he was early in the race still dominating the feature. Decker, Johnson, Chad Phelps and Jimmy Phelps still ran in the top five.
Over the remaining laps and no yellows to tighten the field up, Wight dominated the rest of the way for his fifth Fulton win of the year. Billy Decker, Danny Johnson, Chad Phelps and Jimmy Phelps finished second through fifth.
Tony Finch II and Marcuccilli would lead the 24 car starting field down to the green for the 30-lap FX Caprara Car Companies Upstate Sportsman Alliance feature. At the end of the opening lap it was third-starting Todd Root who would grab the lead.
With two and three wide racing all over the speedway a quick caution would wave on lap 5 to bunch the field up.
Root, who was running the top to keep the lead of the race decided to restart on the inside. Marcuccilli took advantage of it as he would blast into the lead on lap 7.
With 10 laps complete, Marcuccilli would hold a narrow lead as Root, Davis III, Finch and Alan Fink raced for position within striking distance of the leader.
At the 15-lap mark, Marcuccilli, Root and Davis were in a three car breakaway at the front of the field. Fink, Finch, Tyler Meeks and Nick Krause were having a tight fight of their own for fourth through seventh.
With 10 laps to go Marcuccilli and Root broke away from the field as they approached the back of the field, who were using every inch of the track making it tough for the two leaders to get through.
Over the remaining laps Todd Root would throw everything he had at Marcuccilli, even pulling even in turn four on the final lap. Marcuccilli used his experience to pick up the big win.
In the 20-lap NAPA Late Model feature Bret Belden and Alan Fink would lead laps but in the end Sean Beardsley would take the lead on lap 12 and never look back. Chris Fleming, Kevan Cook, Bill Eisele and Jason Occhino would finish second through fifth.
Amy Holland picked up the win in the 15-lap E&V Energy Novice feature. The win was anything but easy as she had to hold off an improving Tyler Trump for the win. Ryan Hatherill, Zach Sobotka and Mike Stanton Jr. chased the top-two across the line.
The Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders put on an exciting 15-lap feature from the opening lap to the checkers. Dakota Bechler would pass race-long leader Tim Dunn on lap 11 and then outdistanced Dunn for the win. Chris Bonoffski, Jacobe Palmiter and Colby Herzog finished third through fifth.

On August 1, Ehrlich Pest Control will present a night of family affordable fun dirt track racing. On the race card will be the Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders plus the Pro Race Cars Mod Lites.
Adult grandstand admission will be $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger free. Pit admission is $27 participant/$30 non-participant. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m.
