Kate E. Wilcox, a senior Marketing major and Economics minor at Oswego State University, has joined Chirello Advertising this fall as an intern, it was announced by Steve Chirello, agency owner.
“A native of York, Kate will be working on research and campaign ideas for our clients in the retail, financial and business-to-business arenas,†Chirello said. “She brings an impressive amount of experience in the field, boundless enthusiasm, and a passion for the industry to our company.â€
Wilcox recently finished an internship with University Directories, the leading media and marketing company in the U.S. “Her role as an Area Sales Manager allowed her to sharpen her management skills as she traveled between 14 college markets coaching and managing 34 sales interns throughout the New England Region,†Chirello said. This was her second summer with the company where she worked as a Local Sales Manager and sold yellow page advertising between the Oswego State University and Geneseo State University markets. After selling in the two smallest markets in the region, she ranked 4th of 55 interns in her region for total ads sold.
In May, Wilcox was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines. She is a Presidential Scholar, a member of Oswego State Universities Honors Program, involved in the Student Advisory Council for the Dean of the School of Business, and President of Phi Beta Lambda, the largest and oldest business organization on the Oswego State Campus.
Wilcox maintains three jobs at Oswego State University. As Sales Director of the campus television station she is responsible for hiring and training sales representatives. She also sells and supervises sales representatives to ensure sales goals are met and customers’ needs are satisfied. She is returning to The Oswegonian, the student-run newspaper, as the Advertising Manager where she has developed a new advertising kit and created broader advertising options for customers. “Last year she single-handedly sold print and online advertising options making her responsible for a 42% increase in revenue from the previous year,†Chirello said. Wilcox returns for her sixth semester of work for the Campus Center Box Office as a Sales Representative. In this position, she sells tickets and supervises student employees to ensure customer service standards are met and maintained.
