OSWEGO, NY – William E. “Bud” Cottom, 89, a resident of 335 E. Ninth St., passed away on Oct. 8, 2009, at Sunrise Nursing Home.
Born in Brockport, he was the son of the late William and Ella (Hickey) Cottom and had attended schools in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was employed at many places; a corner newspaper boy in Cleveland, and locally at Taggarts, Marathon, and Columbia Mills. He retired from the maintenance department from the Armory.
Mr. Cottom was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the European Theater during World War II.
He was a member of the VFW #2320, the Loyal Order of the Cotties and the American Legion #268.
He was an avid Browns and Indians fan and was an avid bowler.
He played Fumbleball for the VFW.
Surviving are his daughter, Colleen Barton and a son, William (Cindy-Kay) Cottom both of Oswego; two sisters, Betty Smith and Theresa Vesico both of Oswego; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine, in 1981; and two sisters, Sadie Mueller and Margaret Woods.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. with a funeral service to follow the calling hours.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
