OSWEGO, NY – William J. Shurtliff Jr., 80, passed away Wednesday August 22, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late William and Lena (Knowlton) Shurtliff.
Bill was employed in the Maintenance Department at SUNY Oswego until his retirement. He previously was employed at Loblaw’s for more than 17 years.
He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.
He was an avid sports fan; his teams were the NY Giants and the NY Yankees.
Surviving are his wife, Susan (Steele) Shurtliff; two daughters, Christine (Wayne) Dennison of Oswego and Virginia (Shawn) Monaghan of Utica; one son, William J. (Linda) Shurtliff III, of Oswego; one brother, Robert (Shirley) Shurtliff of Greece, NY; one sister, Grace Familo of Oswego; his stepchildren, Michele (Edwin) Baker, Mark (Michelle) Bailey, Missy (Mike) Fortier, Shelia (Jim) Nelson, Shawn (Kim) Bailey Scott (Kristina) Bailey and Stephen (Kristine) Bailey; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Horr Shurtliff; his sisters, Evelyn Adle, Edith Miller, Wilma Farella, Helen Lawson and Lena Allison.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Nelson Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Peck’s Cemetery, Scriba.
Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
