Larry Mitchelson, affectionately known as “Mr. Mitch,” taught elementary art in the Fulton City School District for 34 years.
To honor his commitment to local youth, his son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Susan Mitchelson, created a foundation that annually awards a $1,000 scholarship to a student who plans on pursuing higher education in the arts.
Applicants must complete advanced high school credits in art courses and submit a portfolio to a selection committee to be eligible for the award.
This year’s Larry Mitchelson Fine Arts Scholarship recipient is Mariah Munger. Munger is a senior at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton and will receive a $1,000 scholarship towards her education at the State University of New York New Paltz.
She will study Visual Arts in the fall.
