Winners Named in Oswego County Student Art Competition


The student art work in the annual OSWEGO COUNTY STUDENT ART COMPETITION & SHOW is better than ever. The variety and degree of talented art work in this show is amazing and well worth scheduling a visit to THE SALMON RIVER FINE ARTS CENTER . We are happy to open the gallery any time, especially for prearranged class or group trips.

Awards were presented in two group categories: Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12. The award for BEST OF SHOW -THE VERNON F. SNOW AWARD (including both categories) went to a 11th grade student, ALLYSHA BRIGGS for TOOT YOUR HORN from JCB High School -Phoenix . Bonnie Bergen is her teacher for this piece.

The awards for Grades 7-9 were: FIRST PLACE to LIBBY REITZ for CHANCE’S CHILDHOOD from G. Ray Bodley – Fulton; SECOND PLACE to CLAIRE BROOKER for FROGGER from Pulaski High School; THIRD PLACE to ALLISON SMITH for TEEN BEE from Oswego High School. HONORABLE MENTIONS were awarded to: KARALYNN DONEGAN entered from Central Square Middle School; CASSANDRA ORR entered from G.Ray Bodley, Fulton; ALYSSA FACTEAU, CODY MURPHY, and MAURA ROACH entered from Mexico Schools; KAYLA VOLKOMER entered from Oswego High School, JACQUELINE GREER AND LIZ RUSSELL entered from Phoenix Schools; LEO MARINO, JACOB NICHOLSON and MIKE VISCO entered from Pulaski Middle School; BREANN BURNS, STEVEN MAYNARD and EMMA VAN DER HEIDE entered from Pulaski High School.

The awards for Grades 10-12 were: FIRST PLACE to CASSIDY BARNEY for SELF REALIZATION from Oswego High School; SECOND PLACE to JAMES LEACH for BREAKFAST IN AMERICA from J.C.B. High School -Phoenix ; THIRD PLACE to BRANDON ATKINSON for THE PERFECT CATCH entered from G. Ray Bodley – Fulton. HONORABLE MENTIONS were awarded to: ERICA MERKEL and EMMA SOVAY entered from Central Square High School; ASHLEY LUDLOW entered from Mexico High School; JENNA HOTCHKISS and MEGAN MAHANEY entered from Oswego High School; JAMES LEACH, JENNIFER VAN WARMER and DANA RICHARDS entered from J.C.B Phoenix High School; and PAUL KINN, COURTNEY NAGY, ULYANA NIKOLAYEVE and BECKY WEISENBERGER entered from Pulaski High School.

SALLY DEATON MEMORIAL AWARD – BRIDGET CLARK for SERENE & SANITY, from Pulaski . The DARCY HILTON AWARD went to
CHELSEA MAHAFFY for LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW from P.V. Moore Central Square.

We would like to thank ALLIANCE BANK, NA, BRANT DEATON, NANCY & CLIFF HILTON and JONATHAN SNOW for their support in sponsoring this event. We thank the art teachers, parents, participants and members of the Fine Art Center for their time and effort in making this show possible. Judges for this show were professional artists Linda Christoff and David Church.

The show is open until April 30 during regular gallery hours: Wednesday through Friday, Noon to 4 PM and Saturday, 10 AM to 2 PM. Special hours and school group tours may be arranged by calling the Art Center at 298-7007.
