At its meeting Tuesday night, the Common Council approved a request from Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School for permission to place flags – banners on poles in the city of Oswego for the 2012 GENIUS Olympiad.

The second edition of the event (Global Environmental Issues — U.S.) will be held at SUNY Oswego June 24-29.

Taking part in the Olympiad this year will be students from 49 countries and 32 states.

The finalists will present 248 science, art, creative writing and architectural design projects from around the globe.

Students will present a public viewing of their projects from 6 to 7:45 p.m. June 25 in the Campus Center arena.

The awards ceremony will be held 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 28 in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre.
