Wrestlers Salute Seniors

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego High School wrestling seniors were saluted in the recent home match while the girls’ varsity hockey team scored an overtime victory on foreign ice.

Senior night is always an emotional time and as the Oswego High School Buc varsity wrestling team appeared at home earlier this week the seniors were recognized for their dedication and determination.

Zach Thompson, Anthony Todaro, Kyle Rossi, Tom Ruggio and Shane Bartrum are all members of the “Class of 2010” and an appreciative crowd saluted the Bucs.

Oswego then squared off against Liverpool and the invading Warriors walked off with a 44-24 victory.

Shane Bartrum started the night off at 189 and gained a 5-1 verdict over Mike Reed.  Up next was 103 pounder Matt DiFabio who won by forfeit.

Brian Pulver, at 112, lost via a technical fall to Casey Guillfoil in 4:42 while at 119 Alex Smith was pinned by Nate Hathoway in 4:30.

Anthony Todaro lost via a 6-4 decision to Tyler Eason.

Oswego came back as Kyle Rossi, at 130, won in a 49 second pin of Justin Thompson. Austin Gilbert lost the next match in 1:330 to Tyler Kolbasook.

Forfeits continued to give points to the visitors as Jacob Botino, Dakota Inman and Derek Eason picked up 18 more points for Liverpool.

Mike Ruggio, at 160, gave Oswego six more points with a 3:36 pin of Mende Cukalevski and Tommy Ruggio finished up the night with a 2-0 decision over Brendan Capria.

Lady Bucs In OT

Whenever Oswego and Skaneateles girls’ hockey teams have gotten together this season there is a guaranteed of a nail biter and the rivalry lived up to expectations earlier this week.

The Lady Bucs headed to the Lakers home ice and came away with a hard fought 3-2 overtime victory in an important league contest.

Oswego scoring was paced by Taylar Cianfarano, Caty Darling and Kaitlin Friel.

Friel finished with two assists while Devyn Hutcheson and Cianfarano had one each.

In the net Madisyn stopped 20 Laker shots.

Oswego now finishes out the home portion of the schedule at 10 a.m. Saturday (January 23) against Potsdam and Sunday (January 24) against invading Canton at 5:45 p.m. at the Crisafulli Rink at Fort Ontario.
