YMCA Closed Due To ‘Structural Concerns’

UPDATE: January 26

After a meeting this afternoon (Jan. 26) with officials from the Oswego Fire

Department, a structural engineer and staff of the Oswego YMCA, West First
Street between Mohawk and Oneida streets has been reopened.

The sidewalk in front of the YMCA, 249 W. First St., as well as a portion of their parking lot remains closed.

OSWEGO – The Oswego YMCA was evacuated on Saturday afternoon stemming from structural concerns, according to the Oswego Fire Department.

The building and surrounding area remains closed today (Jan. 25).

An Oswego Fire Department engine company returning from an emergency call noticed the north wall of the structure looked suspect.

Oswego Fire officials looked closely at the wall, noting portions of brick and mortar had fallen.

Oswego Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie said, “At this point, we need to wait for a structural engineer to take a look at the building to ensure it is safe.”
