OSWEGO – The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau is looking for additional youth to participate in the Springboard Mural Project along West Linear Park.
“The Springboard Mural Project is off to a very successful start,” said youth activities coordinator Kristen Slimmer. “So successful, that the Youth Bureau is putting out a second call for mural submissions for the project! We are looking for additional kids interested in submitting and painting their own murals along the West Linear Park.”
Youth ages eight and older are encouraged to participate.
A parent or guardian must be present children ages eight to 12 while they are painting.
All art submissions must be received by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau no later than July 13.
Designs will be submitted to the Oswego Common Council for approval.
“The mural project is a youth focused initiative, with the design concept and implementation being executed by local young people with the support of the City of Oswego, Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and AmeriCorps,” said Slimmer. “Murals are located on West Linear Park along the river near the Utica Street Bridge and are designed and created by local students.”
Painting is scheduled on different days of the week, and a few Saturday sessions, concluding Aug. 18.
“The project was originally a city-sponsored community development plan to address graffiti issues. It has continued on with that concern, but also grown into a community project that brings out our local youth talent and demonstrates community togetherness, making this a successful project year after year,” said Slimmer.
Art submissions should be mailed to the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, c/o Kristen Slimmer, 70 Bunner St., Oswego, NY 13126.
