Nick Bergman Memorial Bass Tournament Set

The annual Nick Bergman Memorial Bass Tournament will be held on July 20 at Hooper’s Harbor Marina in Three Mile Bay.

In past years, the tournament has raised nearly $25,000 for the Upstate Medical Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research, as well as $25,000 for the C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Pediatric Palliative Care Program at the Golisano Children’s Hospital.

This year, the Bergman family has decided proceeds from the fishing tournament will go to a family friend, Lynsey Brockway, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Lynsey is 18 years old and is currently being treated for her condition.

There has been a tournament in Nick’s memory since 1999 when he died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 15.

Nick was a sophomore at J.C. Birdlebough in Phoenix where he played football and basketball, however, his real passion was for fishing. Nick’s family decided an annual fishing tournament was a great way to honor Nick while helping other families enduring similar situations.

Tom and Martha Stanley of Kirkville, owners of Hooper’s Marina in Three Mile Bay, have been hosting the tournament since 2006. The marina is located just north of Chaumont on Route 12E.

The largest single small mouth bass and large mouth bass will be awarded $250. Second place prize for the small mouth and large mouth division will be awarded $150, and third place will receive $100.

There will also be a children’s division in which children 12 years and younger will be eligible for three top prizes in their division. The children will be competing for the single largest perch. There will be door prizes, food, and beverages.

Tickets are $10 for adults and there is no entry fee for children 12 and younger. Tickets are available in Phoenix at Bombadil’s on Main Street and RFH’s Hide-A-Way on Route 57.

Tickets are also available at The Crescent Restaurant in Chaumont, the Chaumont Hardware Store, and B&J Bait Shop in Dexter.

No tickets will be sold after 10 a.m. the day of the tournament. Weigh-in is no later than 5 p.m.

Fish will be judged by weight. In case of a tie, length will be measured.

You do not have to be present to win door prizes.

There are open boundaries for this tournament. All New York State conservation laws must be obeyed. Tournament organizers encourage that fish be released in to the marina after weigh-in.
