Oswego County Federal Credit Union (OCFCU), celebrated the grand opening of its Mexico branch office, 5828 Scenic Ave. (Route 3), with a ribbon cutting Dec. 20 hosted by the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
“Our new office, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, is the actual former railroad depot for the village,” said Carhart. “ It was built in 1905 by the Oswego and Rome Railroad and last used as a railroad depot in 1940.
“Our goal with this construction was to restore and preserve the depot while making it a modern credit union office for our members. The architectural firm with which we worked has a background in historic preservation. In fact, it’s probably the only financial institution in the county that has a hitching post and watering trough for horses. We installed these services to accommodate our growing number of Mennonite members who visit us in their horse-drawn carriages.”
Founded in 1975, OCFCU is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative association, which serves more than 6,300 members from throughout Oswego County. OCFCU’s charter was revised in early 2007 so that anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Oswego County is eligible to join.
OCFCU has two offices in Oswego. The 300 W. 1st St. office can be reached at 326-0138 and the 175 E. 7th St. office can be reached at 343-7822. The Mexico office can be reached at 963-2722. Further information can also be found online at www.oswegofcu.com.
