The 2012 Mural Project was a recreation of Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting in mosaic and stained glass requiring nearly 2,000 cut bottle bottoms, and countless man hours to gather, cut, paint and assemble. Hundreds of festival attendees participated in the final assembly project during the 25th anniversary of Harborfest.

The completed 9 foot by 10 foot mural was framed and installed at Indian Point Park on the north edge of Fulton on Route 481.

The new mural will be constructed of recycled sheet aluminum cut into pieces, and painted during Harborfest 2013 much like a large scale paint-by-number project.

The mural will be assembled to hang in a yet-to-be determined location. The completed mural will be approximately 8’x12′. The aluminum mural will hang and move freely in the wind and catch the shimmer of light on the aluminum – hence the title “Art in the Wind.”

Artists are invited to submit a drawing, ink rendering or painting for juried art selection by a panel of judges.

The art work must be reproducible in scale to approximately 8’x12′. The rendering should have gaps and areas to expose the aluminum for full effect.

These areas could represent background, foreground, images, the color silver; grey or white.

Artists are encouraged to explore their imaginations for this mural. There is no charge to submit or participate.

This must be an original piece of art work from the artist submitting it with no violence, nudity or profanity of any kind.

The artist will be credited on a commemorative plaque mounted near the displayed mural and the artist is encouraged to participate in the creation of the mural throughout the entire process.

Artwork must be submitted by 5 p.m. January 31, 2013.

Artwork will be selected by a juried committee and the winner announced Feb. 20.

Preliminary production will begin March 2013. Actual painting and construction will take place during Harborfest, July 24-28 in Oswego.
