Successful Resolution to Man On Roof Incident

On June 18, at approximately 3:44 p.m., the Oswego City Police Department and the Oswego Fire Department responded to 140 W. Seneca St. in regard to a man who was on the roof of the residence and threatening to jump off.

Upon arrival it was determined that a 24-year-old, who did not live at the residence, allegedly made unauthorized access to the roof of the structure by ladder.

The man appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was yelling incoherently at times during the incident, according to police.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the subject throughout the incident in an attempt to safely resolve the situation.

At approximately 3:25 a.m. today (June 19), the man was successfully taken into custody by police.

The subject has been transported to Oswego Hospital for evaluation and will face charges of Criminal Mischief and Trespass in Oswego City Court as a result of today’s incident.

Oswego Police were assisted at the scene by the Oswego Fire Department, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police and Mentor’s Ambulance.

Currently, West Seneca Street between Ontario Street and Liberty Street in the city of Oswego is temporarily closed to vehicular traffic.
