Paul F. Gravatt, 71

HANNIBAL, NY – Paul F. Gravatt, 71, of Hannibal, was called into the loving embrace of his heavenly Father on Monday March 11, 2019, after a short stay at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse.
Paul F. Gravatt

Paul was born in Syracuse, NY, on January 26, 1948, to Paul Gravatt and Fern Schwartz (Morris).

He was the only brother to three beloved sisters whom remained close all their lives.
He married Gail S. Ladd on December 30, 1968, a marriage that endured for 42 years until Gail’s passing from cancer in 2010.
The couple had four children and 10 grandchildren.
They lived briefly in Arizona in the early 1970s before returning to New York.
Paul had a strong work ethic and a drive to challenge himself.
Thus, he took on many roles in his working career; mechanic, Registered Nurse and environmental remediation supervisor to name a few.
At home he was equally driven to spend every hour of daylight physically changing the world around him.
Always working to bring comfort and beauty to his family, neither did he neglect his role as a loving father, husband, brother and son.
Everything he took an interest in he pursued with a passion.
Dreaming, creating and making things better for those he loved was the expression of life for him and brought him the most joy.
Paul is survived by his step-father, “Dad” in every sense, John Schwartz; four children, Renee M. Lewis, Paul J., Benjamin D., and Rosanne C. Maxwell; sister, Laura Thompson; 10 grandchildren, Joseph Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Paul N. Gravatt, Katelyn Gravatt, Evan Trainham, Emmett Maxwell, Luke Maxwell, Eli Maxwell, Angelica Fernandez Rosales and Thiago Azcona.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife and sisters, Rebecca Atkinson and Kathryn Grady (McKelvey).
That he was a fierce overcomer cannot be left unsaid – and his hair was all red.
Calling hours will be held 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 18, at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal, in the spring.
