OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board is pleased to announce its first car seat check event of 2019.
Come to the Paul V. Moore High School off Tucker Ave. in Central Square from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 to have your child’s car seat inspected for proper use and installation.
No appointment is necessary for the free event.
“According to recent polling, between 70 and 90 percent of all car seats are installed incorrectly,” said Oswego County Traffic Safety Board Education Coordinator Kyle Boeckmann. “One of our primary goals is to ensure that people are educated about the correct installation and proper use of car seats to ensure our children’s safety.”
Certified car seat technicians from various agencies will perform safety checks to help ensure proper car seat use, answer any caregiver questions, and offer support and education to all attendees.
There is no charge for the service which is presented by the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board through a grant from the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
Boeckmann added, “We would also like to thank the organizers of the Central Square Health and Wellness Fair for working with us to put these two great events together.”
The car seat safety check is just one of the activities scheduled at the spring Health and Wellness Fair hosted by the Central Square School District’s Mental Health Task Force. The fair runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity for people to explore the resources available throughout the county,” said Mental Health Task Force Co-Facilitator Nicole Heath. “There will be something for everyone, from interactive demonstrations about impaired driving, life-saving CPR techniques and nutrition to presentations on mindfulness, social media and substance use.”
Nearly 50 exhibitors from various community agencies will be at hand to answer questions and distribute wellness resources.
Attendees will be able to learn about building healthy relationships, counseling and mediation services, as well as low-cost insurance programs, addiction and treatment programming, suicide prevention, caregiver assistance, free cancer screenings, nutritional resources, maternal and infant health, school-readiness and social services.
Heath added, “This health fair is free, open to the public, and all ages are welcome. There will also be raffle prizes and giveaways throughout the night.”
