Oswego River/Lake Ontario report:
According to Oz Angling Tackle:
After being up to 12,000cfs on Saturday, the flow has dropped to 10,400cfs this morning. Steelhead are all over the upper half of the river with limited spots to target them from shore with this water level. Some anglers wading along the bank on the west side are having success while float fishing 8 mm beads, egg sacs, pink worms and jigs. Drift boats are doing well on steelhead with a few browns mixed in. Shore anglers fishing the lower end of the river are finding brown trout on the west side by throwing spoons, jigging swim baits along the bottom or bottom bouncing egg sacs and worms. Anglers are finding smallmouth bass (catch and release only at this time) on the east side by jigging along the bottom with swim baits or slip float fishing with jigs.
According to Oz Angling Tackle:
Anglers trolling on Lake Ontario have had a hot start to their lake season. Most anglers have been targeting brown trout with stickbaits and spoons in 5 – 20 feet of water over the past few weeks. Similar to last spring, anglers are already catching kings consistently in 20 – 30 feet of water. Multiple anglers have reported catching kings on Bay Rat stickbaits. A decent number of Atlantics have been caught this spring also with some anglers reporting one or two Atlantics per trip. Lake trout are being targeted in deeper water if the brown trout bite slows down.

Salmon River report:
According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
A group of three anglers fishing early on Sunday accounted for five steelhead between them swinging flies in the lower to upper sections of the river. A fourth angler staying longer reported 4 / 7 steelhead swinging black, brown or white woolly buggers and egg sucking leech patterns. A second group of four anglers reported 3 / 7 steelhead between them with the middle section most productive for them. The water flow is expected to drop to 800cfs today.
According to Whitaker’s Sport Shop and Motel:
The anglers we spoke with on Sunday reported getting into some drop backs in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. Over the last couple of days anglers who are fly fishing had success dead drifting with egg patterns or swinging streamers with sinking leaders. The most productive patterns have been sucker spawn, steelie omelet, woolly buggers, egg sucking leeches, bunny leeches, conehead muddlers and zonkers. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing, egg sacs, beads and pink worms have produced steady results.
Oneida Lake report:
As the open water season gets underway, anglers are finding a perch bite in 10-15 feet of water. A reminder the opening of walleye season is Saturday, May 4.
Sandy Pond report:
There is little activity to report from the pond. A reminder that walleye and northern pike seasons open on Saturday, May 4.
