OSWEGO – Today, June 5, an Oswego County jury convicted Jeremy Acosta, 43, of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree and Second Degree, as well as four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.
According to prosecutors, Acosta possessed substantial amounts of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and suboxone with the intent to sell those substances on April 30, 2018, in the city of Oswego.
The trial, conducted before the Hon. Walter W. Hafner Jr., commenced on May 29.
Chief ADA Mark Moody and ADA Leah Folgherait prosecuted the case for the District Attorney’s Office.
Attorney Jean Brown of Oswego represented Acosta.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 2.
Acosta, who has a prior felony conviction for Robbery in the Second Degree, faces a minimum sentence of eight years in state prison, with a potential maximum sentence of 20 years.
According to District Attorney Gregory Oakes, Acosta was arrested after an investigation by the Oswego County Drug Task Force.
DA Oakes thanked everyone who worked on the case, stating “This conviction is the result of outstanding police work and great collaboration between agencies. A significant dealer was removed from the streets today and we couldn’t have done it without partnership.”
Oakes gave special praise to the city of Oswego Police Department, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Homeland Security, which serve on the Drug Task Force along with investigators from the District Attorney’s Office.
