On May 25, 2012, at approximately 11:26 p.m., Trooper Anna was operating a marked State Police 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on County Route 37 in the Town of Hastings when she lost control of the patrol vehicle on a curve, striking a guide rail and becoming airborne over a small inlet of water causing the car to overturn several times.

Trooper Anna was transported by SOVAC ambulance to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse for severe head trauma.

At 5:25 a.m. today (May 26), Trooper Anna succumbed to her injuries.

Trooper Anna was a 6-year veteran of the New York State Police, and was assigned to the Hastings Barracks in Oswego County.

She is survived by her mother, step-father, a four year-old child and a fiancé.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.

Governor Andrew Cuomo issued the following statement:

“I send my condolences to the family and friends of State Trooper Amanda Anna who died early this morning as a result of injuries sustained from a tragic car accident last night while on duty in Oswego County. She was just 31 years old. For the six years that Trooper Anna served as a member of the State Police, she put protecting the people of the State of New York before all else. In addition to her family and friends, Trooper Anna leaves behind a fiancé – who also serves as a member of the State Police – and a four year old child. They are both in our thoughts and prayers. New York is a safer state as a result of Trooper Anna’s commitment and dedication, and we mourn her untimely passing.”

Further information will be made available as it develops.

  1. On behalf of the Parish fire co. Amanda is one of the best we have been able to work with. She is very professional at what she does. We were blessed to be able to work with her out on I-81 and other alarms. She will be greatly missed out there. May she rest in pease. Our prayer to her family. R.I.P.
