Person Rescued From Water Near Sheldon Beach

UPDATE # 2

The Oswego City Police Department has been notified by the Oswego Hospital that Victor O.  Woolson has died from the swimming accident that occurred on Lake Ontario August 9, 2012.
The circumstances surrounding the drowning are still under investigation.
Initial reports to the Oswego City Police Department that the victim had been transported to Upstate were found to be inaccurate.

Swimming Accident update

Victor O. Woolson, 19, of 1019 County Route 29, Lycoming, has been identified as the person pulled out of Lake Ontario on August 9, according to Oswego police.

Woolson was transported to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, where he is currently in critical condition.

OSWEGO – At 8:02 p.m. today (Aug. 9), the Oswego Fire Department responded to a person in the water in distress in the area of the former Sheldon Beach at the western end of the city of Oswego behind the city of Oswego Water Treatment Plant near SUNY Oswego.

The Fire Department  deployed its rescue boat “Beau” and also responded with units to the shoreline.

At 8:19 p.m., a  person was spotted floating in the water about 20 yards from shore.

He was rescued by Oswego Fire Department personnel and brought to shore at 8:21 p.m.

He was treated and transported to Oswego Hospital.

The incident is still under investigation.

Oswego City Police assisted at scene.
