Child Passenger Safety Course Offered For New Technicians

Calling all parents, caregivers, teachers, and safety professionals! Oswego County Traffic Safety Board is offering a certification course for Child Passenger Technician in November.

Marg-and-Baby
Margaret Beers, National Child Passenger Safety Instructor, ensures that this little one is riding as safely as possible. New recommendations ask parents to leave their children rear facing for as long as the seat will accommodate them. Infant seats like this one, generally only go to 25 pounds, at which point parents need to move their child to a convertible style seat that can continue to be installed rear facing for over a year. Many convertible seats can hold babies up to 40 pounds rear facing which will take most babies right into their second year.

The National Safe Kids course certifies individuals for 2 years and is easily renewed.

The training concentrates on assisting parents, grandparents, and caregivers in choosing the correct seat for their child and installing it correctly and tightly with every trip.

“Child car seats have changed a lot in the past ten years,” said Billie Crandall Brady of the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board. “This is an excellent opportunity to gain expertise level knowledge of child safety, and also be able to share that information to ensure that our Oswego County children are riding as securely as possible.”

The course meeting dates are Nov. 6,7,13,14, from 6 – 10 p.m., and two Saturdays, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Nov 17 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
