Robert E. Purtell, 69, formerly of Oswego, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late James and Laura (Orr) Purtell.
Mr. Purtell was a US Navy Veteran.
He was a fireman for the Oswego Fire Department for 27 years, retiring in 1994. Following retirement he resided in Florida.
He was a former member of the Oswego Elks Lodge 271; he enjoyed his boat and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne (Anthony); four daughters, Mary Margaret (Jack) Haynes of Oswego; Laura Palmer of Oswego; Catherine Purtell of Ohio and Elizabeth Purtell of Florida. Four sons, Robert (Shari) Purtell of Cicero; Daniel Purtell of Oswego, Christopher (Kim) Purtell of Sterling and Patrick (Melissa) Purtell of Minetto. Three brothers, James (Dolores) Purtell of Texas; Kenneth (Lorraine) Purtell of Florida and David (Jean) Purtell of Florida. 21 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Sheldon.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27th, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.
Calling Hours will be held 12 noon – 2 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home.
