John (Jack) T. Fields

OSWEGO – John (Jack) T. Fields, 86, of Oswego passed away on April 30, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side.

Jack was born in Moriah Center, NY in the Adirondack Mountains the son of the late John and Constance (Maguire) Fields.  All his life he adhered to the small town values of hard work and helping others that he had learned growing up there.

He was a proud veteran who served in the Air Force from 1956-1962.  He married his wife, Carole Williams in 1960 and they raised their three daughters.

Jack worked at IBM for 26 years in Vermont.  He quickly moved up in the company with his integrity, hard work, and dedication.  In 1991, he and Carole retired to Oswego, NY to be close to her large Irish family.  Always one to keep busy, he worked for Centro as a bus driver and then district manager for 20 years.

Jack was adventurous and he and Carole loved to travel.  They took many trips around the country without a plan or destination and always on back roads.  Jack could fix anything and was known to drop everything to help someone in need.  Above all things, Jack was an amazing strong and gentle man.  His children and grandchildren quickly learned that underneath his booming voice and tough exterior was a kind person that they could rely on and call for help or advice anytime.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Carole and daughters Jacqueline Parks, Maureen (Michael) McGrath, and Jeannine Thibault.  He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Alaine Thibault (Isaiah Tyler), John Parks, Maura (Bubo) Markov, Jean-Claude Thibault, Michael McGrath, and Samuel McGrath as well as great grandchildren Grant and Owen Tyler and Leona and Theo Markov, niece and nephew Janet (Andy) Watts and Paul (Gail) Carlson.  Jack was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law Mary and Warren Carlson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, May 13, 2024, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
