New Sea Grant Fact Sheets Showcase Diversity Of Eastern Lake Ontario Region

OSWEGO, NY – New York Sea Grant has published eight new Eastern Lake Ontario Dunes and Wetlands Fact Sheets.

The series provides information and photos in pdf format on:

• Arrangement & Development of Eastern Lake Ontario Wetlands
• Beach Litter
• Bog Buckmoth
• Dune Building Plants
• Hybrid Cattails
• Muskrat
• Sediment along the beaches and dunes of Eastern Lake Ontario, and
• Yellow Perch,

New York Sea Grant Great Lakes Coastal Community Development Specialist Mary Penney authored the series. Penney says, “This series of Fact Sheets was developed to showcase the diversity of plants, animals and habitats found in New York’s Eastern Lake Ontario Dunes & Wetlands Area. We especially encourage both formal and informal teachers such as scout leaders, and coastal resource managers to share them with their students and resource visitors.”

New York Sea Grant (NYSG) is part of a nationwide network of 32 university-based programs that work with coastal communities. The National Sea Grant College Program engages this network of the nation’s top universities in conducting scientific research, education, training, and extension projects designed to foster science-based decisions about the use and conservation of our aquatic resources.

A Sampling of Facts from New NY Sea Grant Publications
· Practice “Carry-in, Carry-out” to reduce beach litter.
· Clay, silt, sand and pebbles are all forms of beach sediment.
· Yellow perch have a lifespan of eight to nine years.

Sandra Scott Travels: Wine Trail A treat For The Taste Buds

John and I like to break up our road trips by stopping at new places. On our way to visit family in Ohio, we had a wonderful stay at The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. Yes, there is more than one Geneva-on-the-Lake. The one in Ohio is part of Geneva State Park where there is picnicking, camping, cabins, boating, trails, swimming, fishing and more. The lodge is a beautiful resort with rooms that have great views of Lake Erie. The first day we were there it was rainy and the lake was kicking up but the next morning the water calmed, the sun came out, and it was beautiful.

Memorial Weekend ‘Super Spectacle’ and $5 Anniversary Night Highlight 65th Season at Oswego Speedway

Oswego Speedway officially announced its 65th anniversary, 15-race weekend schedule featuring the Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS ‘Road to the Championship’, as well as several blockbuster weekend events, on Friday. When taking note of the 2015 schedule of events, two key components no doubt stand out. The first coming in the month of May, the second on the Speedway’s anniversary weekend in August.
