Oswego County Humane Society Helped by Oz Roller Girls

Working with the Oz Roller Girls, the Oswego County Humane Society recently raised enough money to sponsor an upcoming spay/neuter clinic. The Oz Roller Girls provided a portion of proceeds from their May roller derby bout, where Humane Society mascots Porky and Buddy collected loose-change donations. From left are Kannonball Kat-astrophe (Katherine Hansen) and Abbie Cadaver (Mallory Wills Taber) of the Oz Roller Girls, Adele Ferry and Dan Capella receiving a check on behalf of the Oswego County Humane Society, and rollergirls Murmaider (Vanessa Vickery) and Storm Warning (Toni Pavo). The Oz Roller Girls return to action at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 11, with a doubleheader at Crisafulli Rink in Oswego. Sir William McManus presents “Knights, Armor and Weapons of the Middle Ages”

Sir William McManus, right, an expert on the Middle Ages, acquired a “squire,” Nate Woods, left in helmet, to help him during his demonstration to students at APW Middle School recently. McManus’ demonstration provided the sixth grade students with a personal look at life during the Dark Ages.William McManus visited the school to lecture about the Middle Ages. McManus brought with him replicas of chain mail, armor, helmets, weapons and more in a hands-on demonstration about life during the Dark Ages.
